Goodbye, NOLA!

Return trips are always a little bittersweet because I see many, many more fun things to do than I have time for.

Kitty, however, is having a great time staying in the moment.

At that moment she was asking: “Where’s my breakfast?”

I bought a couple souvenirs. I think that’s a French word too.
A cute t-shirt
A matching fanny- pack and earrings. I will look ridiculous wearing these anywhere but here.

Don’t care! And, why are they called t- shirts? What does the T stand for?

The drive through Mississippi is uneventful except for this:

I think it’s rain I’m headed into, but it’s smoke!

Turns out marsh fires are pretty common here. This wildfire smoke map shows several burning just east of Slidell:

The wetlands areas in Louisiana are stunningly large. Marsh fires are often unreachable, and because of peat bog decomposition, are also known to burn underground!

I’m back on Dauphin Island with Simon and Leanne. It’s my first return to any rv park, and they greet me, smiling and friendly, from their golf cart.

The air smells good and sweet here.
